FAQ

  • How can I confirm my order?

For orders under $1000, full payment is required to confirm the order. For orders over $1000, 50% deposit is requested to hold the date, with the remainder due 30 days before the event date. Please confirm your order 2-4 weeks in advance to ensure that enough time is allocated to source ingredients and to secure a pick up date and time. For custom flavors, please allow more time for trials. The price given is valid for 48 hours (or 1 week for wedding cake quotes). If payment is not received in that time, I will assume your order is canceled.

Once confirmed, each cake is baked and decorated to order, a process which takes approximately 5-7 hours. The cake layers and components are made the night before pick-up and then decorated the following day to ensure optimum freshness.

For orders over 1k , no changes can be made once the order is confirmed or less than 30 days before the event date. This is due the the higher amount of planning involved in the production of a cake larger than Yip.Studio standard sizes.

  • How early should I order my cake?

Please confirm your order at least 2-4 weeks in advance. I take up to 3 orders on available days. Friday-Sunday are more popular days for celebrations, so for weekend orders, I recommend confirming earlier to hold your spot. For cakes orders months in advance, feel free to inquire early.

  • Can I cancel my order?

Cancellations made less than 24 hours after order confirmation will have 100% of payment returned. For cancellations after 24 hours of order confirmation, only 50% of the payment will be returned. Orders may not be canceled within 72 hours of the confirmed pick up date and time. Please notify via email at yip.studio.amy@gmail.com if you wish to cancel.

  • Can I reschedule my order?

For orders rescheduled with more than 2 months notice, no fee is added. With less than 1 month notice a 20% fee will be added. With less than 2 weeks notice, a 30% fee will be added. The rescheduled date will be based on availability and is not guaranteed. Orders cannot be rescheduled with less than 1 week notice because ingredients and time have already been allocated to producing the cake. For more information, please see my cancellations policy.

  • Do you deliver cakes?

For smaller cakes, pick up is preferred. If delivery is the only option, the price is TBD based on location, starting at $90.

For wedding cakes, deliveries can be made in Brooklyn/Manhattan starting at $120-$200 depending on the distance and scale of the cake. Deliveries upstate are possible with a minimum order of $2k.

If picking up is not an option, there are apps like Task Rabbit who will pick up items for you.

My best recommendation is having someone hold the cake in the car since these NY roads are very bumpy.

  • Does Yip.Studio offer gluten-free/vegan/dairy-free cake options?

Yes, please inquire about what flavors are available that meet your dietary restrictions.

An additional fee is added to the total cost of the cake - +50 S/+75 M/+100 L/TBD for larger cakes

For gluten-free cakes, the cakes are not made using separate bowls and not guaranteed to be completely trace-free of gluten. They are made using gluten-free flour alternatives and dishwasher-sanitized bowls and tools.

  • Can I order a custom flavor?

Yes, depending on time allocated for the order, I can develop a flavor that is not on my menu. The flavors are perfect as they are. Additional fees are added for custom flavor or adjustments. Some changes will not be recommended. Please inquire for more info.

  • Can I order a cake with short notice?

For orders with less than 1 weeks notice, an additional $75 may be added to the order.

  • How long does the cake stay fresh?

Ideally the cake is best consumed within 2-3 days. If you have leftovers, the cake can be frozen for up to 2 months. Wrap each slice carefully with cling film and place in an airtight container or ziplock bag before storing in the freezer. To defrost, place the frozen slice in the refrigerator overnight, on the kitchen counter for 3-4 hours or in the microwave for 10 seconds at a time until desired consistency.

  • How long can the cake travel for?

The cakes are refrigerated enough to survive traveling in a car or train rides for up to 1 hour after pick up. It is highly recommended that cakes are carried by hand or in the front seat of a car due to the bumpy roads in NY. For longer travel times than 1 hour, I recommend requesting ice packs and/or longer refrigeration time before pick-up.

  • Can I send an Uber connect or Lyft package to pick up my order?

Once the cake leaves my hands I am not responsible for the cake arriving safely. If it is the only option, the client must have the driver pull up to the front of the church entrance and let me know when they arrive. Please do not send tracking. I do not have time to wait and look for the driver.

  • Do you ship cakes?

No. Unfortunately the cakes are too fragile to survive any shipping process. Customers are welcome to organize their own shipping solution.

  • Why are the prices higher than what I typically pay for a cake?

You are paying for my unique skill and artistry. It takes me about 5-7 hours to produce each one-of-a-kind custom scuptural cake. I am currently still operating on a micro scale where I do ALL of the tasks involved in this small business - sourcing ingredients and flowers, designing, baking, cleaning, decoration, more cleaning, answering emails, packaging, website updates, social media, delivery, accounting. 1-2 times a week, I may have an assistant helping as a kitchen hand.

  • Can I order a smaller sized cake than what is on your price chart?

Currently I do not offer smaller sized cakes at this time. The smallest cake is the small rock. It could be something I offer in the future when I have more operating space.

  • Are the flowers on the cake edible?

Mostly no. The flowers are mostly decorative. The stems are wrapped with flower tape to protect the cake from the flower. These must be removed before serving the cake.

  • Yip.Studio does not:

    -write on cakes
    -make gender reveal cakes
-make kids cakes in the shape of cartoons or animals
    -recreate other people’s cake designs
